A great opportunity was unveiled in August with the launch of the SAGCOT Catalytic Trust Fund (SCTF) Matching Grant Fund (MGF).

The MGF exists to:

  1. facilitate the expansion of sustainable market linkages and business relationships between smallholder farmers, and agribusinesses operating in the SAGCOT area to drive improvements in smallholder productivity through the adoption of new technology and improved management practices;
  2. connect smallholder farmers to markets through agribusiness partnerships which will raise their incomes; and
  3. create employment opportunities in rural areas, especially for vulnerable groups like women and youth, which will raise rural household living standards, improve food security and reduce malnutrition.

Following the announcement and the 3-week window for the application, the SAGCOT Centre, together with STCF and its fund management team, organised a workshop to demystify the MGF and provide clarification on the application process; through the Concept Note template published in five Tanzania publications.

This was an exclusive opportunity SAGCOT Partners were fortunate to have. Fund managers around the world never meet with or even explain the general concepts to applicants.

This session held on 14 August 2018, at the Best Western Coral Beach Hotel, provided a full day of sharing and learning. The day’s session focused on a refresher of what the SAGCOT principles were and questions partners were eager to seek clarity on.

Here is an image of some of the questions asked and answered by the fund management team.
